SC affirms prison term for DAR exec in Kidapawan who extorted from farmers

MANILA – The Supreme Court has convicted a former provincial agrarian reform adjudicator for extorting cash and tuna fish from litigants 15 years ago.

In its 21-page decision made available online on Monday, the SC affirmed the Sandiganbayan’s 2019 decision convicting  Henry Gelacio of the Department of Agrarian Reform Adjudication Board (Darab) Region XII based in Kidapawan City, Cotabato for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and sentenced him to up to eight years behind bars.

TESDA 12 to train region’s agri sector on use of drone in farming

KORONADAL CITY – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-12) is helping farmers in the Soccsksargen region on the use of modern technology, like the drone, in farming.

TESDA Regional Director Rafael Y. Abrogar II recently met with drone experts and professor from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) - Kabacan Campus and discussed about the use of drone in agriculture.

Tacurong rat for cash drive nets 5,800 tails

TACURONG CITY (June 3) – The campaign against rat infestation here have gained ground with 5,800 rat tails presented to and paid for by the city agriculture office.

As of June 2, the city agriculture office has paid P68,000 for 5,800 tails collected by farmers in a bid to get rid the rice fields of rodents, according to City Agriculturist Ivan Gerry G. Arzagon.

Each rat tail costs P8.

To prevent rice production losses and help ensure continuous income for rice farmers here, the city government has launched in March a rat for cash campaign.

MAFAR launches Farm Business School in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) officially opened its Farm Business School (FBS) program in three (3) towns of Maguindanao on March 30-31 and April 1.

The three selected beneficiaries are the Bunawan Tri-People Marketing Cooperative in Datu Paglas Municipality with 30 farmer enrollees, Mamalu Tabunaway Descendants Organization in Datu Odin Sinsuat with 25 enrollees, and the Maaden Irrigators Association in Datu Saudi Ampatuan with 20 enrollees.

Project TABANG turns over farm tractors in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY – In an effort to help farmers improve their livelihood by increasing their production, eight (8 ) units of tractors were turned over on March 29 to farmers’ associations from the municipalities of Ampatuan, Mamasapano, Shariff Saidona, Paglas, Paglat, and Talitay in Maguindanao.
 
These are part of the 15 units of tractors, worth P43.5-million, the Project TABANG (Tulong Alay sa Bangsamorong Nangangailangan) has allotted for farmers’ associations in the region.

Biz blocs elated with multi-billion SPDA Lanao Sur agri project

COTABATO CITY --- Stakeholders said Saturday the multi-billion agricultural project of the Southern Philippines Development Authority in Lanao del Sur will put the Bangsamoro region into Asia’s business map.

SPDA Administrator Gerry Salapuddin, Agriculture Secretary William Dar and senior officials of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao together launched last Tuesday the Agro-Industrial Development Program (AIDP) covering Amai Manabilang and Wao towns in Lanao del Sur.

ASF hits 2 villages in Mlang, North Cotabato

KIDAPAWAN CITY - An agriculture official in Mlang, North Cotabato has confirmed that at least 30 heads of hogs were culled after one of them was tested positive of African Swine Fever based on the laboratory results on Sunday afternoon.

Municipal agriculturist Arlene Encarnacion said the slaughtered hogs in the town's double A slaughterhouse were owned by the meat vendors and supposedly sold at the public market last Saturday.

MAFAR inaugurates P4.7-M worth of seaweed facility in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY — Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) inaugurated a seaweed facility during the groundbreaking ceremony held on Thursday, Oct. 7, at Parang, Maguindanao. 
 
The support facility aimed to enhance seaweed production in Maguindanao in order to cope and sustain with the supply due to increasing demand in the market.

MAFAR approves over P3.5-M cost of fishery equipment for Sulu and Basilan projects

COTABATO CITY — Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) and three (3) fishery equipment suppliers from Sulu and Basilan entered into agreements on Monday, Oct. 4, to fasten the implementation of the ministry’s project in the Bangsamoro region.
 
The first supplier was MMK Construction and Enterprises, represented by Malli M. Kadil, who won Lot 1: Supply, delivery, and installation of 135 units of Coral Nursery Units (CNU) for Basilan under FishCORAL Project, CY 2019 with the total cost of Php1,852,279.65.
