MAFAR-BARMM builds warehouse with solar dryer for Shariff Aguak farmers

COTABATO CITY - Four months from now, farmers in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, are expected to benefit from a P4 million warehouse with a solar dryer under the Bangsamoro Appropriation Act of 2020.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph. D, Wali Executive Secretary Sheik Mohidin Abdulrahman, and Director for Agriculture Services Engr. Ismail Guiamel led the ceremonial shovel in Barangay Bialong, symbolizing the start of the project construction on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

Fish farmers are expected to increase productivity with MAFAR's help

COTABATO CITY - Some Maguindanao fisherfolks are expected to improve productivity and revenue with the intervention from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR).

Some 36,000 tilapia fingerlings were distributed on Friday, July 23, to fish farmers in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao.

KORONADAL CITY - Pakitungan ng maganda ang mga magsasaka.

Ito ang paalala ni Department of Agriculture 12 Regional Executive Director Arlan Mangelen sa mga kinatawan ng hybrid seed companies na kanyang pinulong.

Ayon kay Mangelen kung maayos ang pakikitungo ng mga hybrid companies magkakaroon din ang mga ito ang mas maigting na ugnayan sa mga magsasaka.

Sa pamamagitan nito ayon kay Mangelen ay mas mahihikayat ng mga Hybrid Seed Companies ang mga magsasaka na magtanim ng Hybrid seeds.

BARMM's ‘palay’ yield up 36% in Q1 2021

COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has recorded a 36 percent increase in palay yield during the first quarter this year, the region’s Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported Thursday.

PSA-BARMM Director Razulden Mangelen said their records indicated that the 36 percent growth in palay yield is equivalent to 310,012 metric tons, as compared to 196,987 metric tons logged last year.

Maguindanao farmers complete 4-month farming school

COTABATO CITY — Local rice farmers in three towns of Maguindanao—Matanog, Barira, and Buldon—completed a 4-month long Farmers’ Field School (FFS) training organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) and the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice).

On Tuesday, July 13, thirty farmers from Brgy. Liong in the town of Barira culminated their FFS training. 

The event was marked as the fifth rite for the farmer participants since its ceremonial graduations kicked off last June 29.

Lanao farmers and fisherfolk receive 0% interest cash loan from MAFAR

MARAWI CITY – Eighty marginalized small farmers and fisherfolk (MSFF) from Lanao del Sur province each received Php25,000 non-interest bearing cash loan from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR).

A delegation from the MAFAR regional office led by Senior Agriculturist Ramil Timpolok and Agriculture Credit Policy Council Provincial (ACPC) Focal Person Nassem Sarangani officiated May 28 the third batch of loan distribution in Marawi City.

KIDAPAWAN CITY - Over two years ago while we were in an event in Buluan, Maguindanao, I asked the approval of President Rody Duterte to seek Israel's help in implementing the Solar-Powered Irrigation Project which the Dept. of Agriculture proposed to boost the country's rice production.

As expected, Pres. Duterte gave me the green light and I proceeded to engage the Israeli Embassy in Manila and the LR Group, an Israeli agro-industrial company.

More Filipino farmers venturing into `organic farming’

COTABATO CITY --- Organic farming can bail central Mindanao farmers out from low earnings due to production challenges and climate change, agriculture officials said.

The prospects of organic farming was discussed during the March 29-30 Regional Food Security Summit in Koronadal City, capital of South Cotabato province.

The summit, attended by more than 300 representatives from central Mindanao’s agriculture and fisheries sectors, was organized by the office of Arlan Mangelen, regional executive director of the Department of Agriculture-12.
