1 dead, 1 critical in 2 gun attacks in South Cotabato town
KORONADAL CITY - Police are now investigating two separate shooting incidents that transpired in Polomolok town in South Cotabato on Wednesday that left one dead and another in critical condition.
In a report, Lt. Col. Marvin Duadua, Polomolok police chief, said the first shooting occurred at 10 a.m. along the national highway between Barangay Rubber and Barangay Poblacion, Polomolok.
The unidentified victim was driving black Honda Wave motorbike heading toward Polomolok. Two men riding on separate motorbike drove near him and shot him.
He died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds while the suspects quickly fled toward Barangay Rubber.
Responding police found two cartridges and a slug for cal. 45 pistol.
Duadua said the second incident occurred at around 8:45 in the evening where Nelson Guiao, who was driving a Honda XRM motorbike, was flagged down by two men in Barangay Pagalungan, particularly infront of Springfield Resort, a dimly lit portion of the highway.
One of the two suspects pulled a hand gun and declared hold-up. Guiao repeatedly yelled for help, forcing one of the suspects to shot him in his abdomen.
Thinking the suspects were after his motorbike, Guiao took the key and ran toward the gate of Springfield Resort to seek help from the security guard.
Duadua said the suspects also pushed the victim's motorcycle to the bushy side of the road and fled after sensing the police were coming.
Police brought Guiao to Polomolok District hospital and later he was transferred to South Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Koronadal City for further medication. (WB)
