COTABATO CITY --- The Sinolinding family is puzzled why a very vital instrument that could have helped solve a crime in place it is unlikely to happen has malfunctioned minutes before and after Dr. Sajid "Jaja" Sinolinding and his bodyguard were murdered.

Yet the CCTV cameras have recorded all other events inside the Cotabato Doctor's Clinic except minutes or seconds before Sinolinding, a 37-year-old eye doctor, was killed at 11:10 a.m.

It added more pain to the family of Dr. Jaja, according to his elder brother, Dr. Kadil Sinolinding Jr, health secretary in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Dr. Jaja and his armed escort, Mohammad Esmael, both died on the spot after they were shot by the gunman who posed as eye patient.

“(We are) very much dismayed and bothered," Dr. Kadil, also an eye specialist, told reporters.  "The only way we can identify the assailant is through the CCTV but the footages cannot be found," he added.

The twin murders took place between 11:10 a.m. to 11:16 a.m. at the second floor of the building of the Cotabato Doctors Clinic along Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City.

However, the CCTV camera footage was empty yet its counter continues to roll, according to Senior Inspector Alexander de Pedro. He said recording resumed at 11:30 a.m.

"It seems the suspect jammed the signal of the video recording, this is why we submitted the video files to CIDG for deeper investigation,” De Pedro said, adding that the suspect may have an accomplice in the building who did the jamming.

Dr. Jaja's secretary told reporters the gunman arrived at about 11 a.m. posing as eye patient.  When told that the clinic is no longer accepting patients since the cut-off time had lapsed.

"He was insistent, he said he wanted to see Dr. Jaja then pulled a gun, barged inside the small room and shot him at close range," the secretary said asking she remained unidentified.

“When our guard came in, he too was repeatedly shot by the gunmen as he entered the door," she added.

Before fleeing amid commotion, the suspect took the escort's handgun and his wallet. Police believed he has accomplices within the two story building.

Dr. Kadil admitted he and his family have been receiving threats since last year after his brother-educator exposed corruption in a state college in Arakan, North Cotabato.

Professor Harris Sinolinding survived an ambush last August 2, 2016.

“I hope the government and President Duterte should look seriously about this incident, my younger brother (Jaja) now is a collateral damage, they threatened to get any of us,” Dr. Kadil said.
