Classes suspended anew due to tremor
COTABATO CITY --- The local government unit here suspended classes in all schools today (Nov.19) following the magnitude 5.9 earthquake that jolted southern Mindanao provinces on Monday night.
Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, presiding chairperson of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, immediately announced after the nighttime tremor was felt that engineers need to inspect again all school buildings in campuses for damages.
A team of engineers under Guiani-Sayadi’s office initiated early on an extensive evaluation of school buildings in the city’s 37 barangays after strong episodes of earthquakes jolted central Mindanao from between October 16 to October 31.
Employees of hospitals in the region immediately moved patients out after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit southern provinces at about 9:22 p.m. Monday.
No one was reported hurt, but the tremor, its epicenter traced at Kadingilan town in Bukidnon province in Region 11, caused panic among residents of North Cotabato and in Cotabato City.
