DENR 12 exec witness launching of giant Christmas tree in SoCot
TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato - Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-12) Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for Technical Services Ma. Socorro C. Lanto graced the ceremonial lighting of the 100 feet Christmas tree made of recyclable materials in Tampakan, South Cotabato.
Speaking during the event, Lanto said that RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 is one of the 10 point socio-economic agenda of DENR.
She lauded the officials of Tampakan for complying with the three environmental laws, the ecological solid waste management, clean air and clean water.
Located at the center of Tampakan park, the gigantic Christmas Tree stands at 100 feet high with an 8-diameter wide in base composed of more or less 100,000 pieces of recyclable materials that are mostly Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottle.
The project aims to be emulated by the other constituents as it engages in educating the community about the 6Rs waste management techniques.
The reusing of PET bottles to recreate a giant Christmas Tree exemplifies the efforts of the LGU of Tampakan and its community to preserve the environment.
