DENR-12, partners hold "run for a cause"
KORONADAL CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-12) and partner agencies conducted on Saturday a “run for a cause” in the city in a bid to strengthen awareness on proper was disposal.
Dr. Sabdullah C. Abubacar, DENR-12 regional executive director, led the program as part of the implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
Dubbed as “Run for a Cause: Basura Mo, Pulutin Mo #SanaPloggingGanito,” the event was in partnership with Environmental Management Bureau (EMB 12) in cooperation with the Koronadal City local government unit, the Koronadal City Traffic Office and the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) South Cotabato provincial chapter.
Abubacar said the event primarily aimed at gathering various sectors through a run for a cause that will contribute to environmental preservation, particularly on proper waste disposal.
It also aimed at promoting RA 9003 and to practice segregation trash.
The activity also hoped to develop a sense of advocacy for correct and right disposal of garbage, he said.
At least 120 participants joined the event, among them were students, youth and government workers as well as private individuals.
Explaining the event, Abubacar said the 2-kilometer fun run started at the Rizal Park and ended in the same park.
The participants picked trash while running along the road with an assigned personnel per stations for validation.
A total of five bags of plastic wastes were accumulated from the runners and then later collected by the city waste truck collectors for the proper disposal.
