Fr. Gacis, OMI laid to rest

COTABATO CITY – The Oblates of Mary Immaculate today sent Fr. Prospero M. Gacis, OMI to his final resting place at OMI cemetery, Barangay Tamontaka, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.  

Fr. Eliseo Mercado, OMI, presided over the requiem mass for Fr. Gacis, 9`1, who died in his sleep at 6:10 a.m. on Thursday last week.

Fr. Danny Segio, OMI  and Fr.Bert Layson were co-celebrants. 

Also in attendance were OMI provincial superior Fr. Larry de Guia, Oblate fathers and brothers, seminarians, deacons and parishioners in areas where Fr. Gacis who served in the past.  

Born on October 11, 1926 and took the road to priesthood in 1949, Fr. Gacis was the 9th Filipino to become priest and was ordained in Rome in December 21, 1957.  
 

He was the third Oblate to have died this year or in the last three months. Fr. Elino Isip, OMI and Fr. Manny Mina, OMI separately died on August 6 and August, 30, respectively.
