MANILA – Jason Castro, once again, showed he was and still is Asia best point guard in basketball after he led Gilas Pilipinas in the homestretch against Chinese Taipei, 90-83, in the 2019 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers Monday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Matthew Wright and Roger Pogoy made their presence felt beyond the arc as they dropped bombs half way into the fourth quarter.

June Mar Fajardo was one of the keys for Gilas victory, its second in the Asian qualifiers, when he proved he was Philippine Basketball Association 4-time MVP.

He scored 17 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. It was his best performance so far as Gilas’ star.

Gilas Pilipinas is facing a bigger challenge in Australians when they meet in February next year for the second leg of the Asian qualifiers.

Australia is the reigning Fiba Asia champion. Both Gilas and Australia are in Group B with similar 2-0 win-loss record.

After Australia, Gilas will host Japan on February 25.
