KIDAPAWAN CITY  – A couple was found dead along the national highway here with bullet wounds Thursday morning, police said.

Superintendent Leo Ajero, Kidapawan City police director, identified the victims as Danilo Solis, 46, of Barangay Del Carmen, President Roxas, North Cotabato, and Jennylyn Bascon, 42, of Barangay Mua-an, this city.

Both sustained gunshot wounds on their heads and back, the city director said.

Initial police reports showed that around 3 a.m. the victims were heading towards Poblacion onboard a motorcycle when waylaid by still unidentified gunmen along the highway in Barangay Birada.

The gunmen were also onboard a motorbike.

Ajero said the suspects first shot Bascon who ‘literally flew’ from the vehicle and landed on the cemented road after she was hit on her head.

She was seated at the back.

Solis, according to the city director, sped towards Barangay Birada but was also pursued by the suspects and shot on his head and back.   He also died on the spot.

The bodies of the victims were found by bystanders three hours later, Ajero said.

He added they are digging deeper their probe on what caused the couple’s killing and those behind it.

“We’re looking at love triangle as the closest motive because both were married. However, we don’t stop there our investigations. There could be other reasons why they were silenced that we have to investigate further,” said Ajero.

Ajero did not say why the victims, both separately married, were on a motorbike during wee hours.

The killing of Solis and Bascon was the fourth and firth shooting incidents in the city since May this year.

Earlier, a van dispatcher and two K9 handlers of bomb sniffing dogs were victims of shooting by still unidentified suspects.
