NGO spearheads outreach program for IPs in Maguindanao
UPI, Maguindanao – In celebration of Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month this October, local officials and non-government organization organized an outreach program that benefitted more than 100 pupils and their parents on Friday.
Beneficiaries of the outreach program were students of Sabaken Elementary School in Upi, Maguindanao who received dental and hygiene kits, vitamins, according to Aileen Kesa Marie Usob-Hualde, according to director of the Women Organization of Rajah Mamalu Descendants (WORMD).
In partnership with Maguindanao First District Board Member Sharifudin Tucao Mastura and Upi Councilor Alex Penaloza, Usob-Hualde said the program also included feeding program and forum on parenting and values formation as well as cultural sensitivity for pupils’ parents.
Artemio Malbaran, Upi schools district supervisor, lauded WORMD and the local officials for choosing Sabaken pupils as recipients of the outreach program.
“All the beneficiaries belonged to Teduday tribe,” Ubos-Hualde said.
Penaloza said he will continue to help the IPs in whatever way he can as elected official of Upi.
