North Cotabato cops kill 2 drug suspects in drug raid

MATALAM, North Cotabato -- Two notorious drug suspects were killed today in a buy-bust operation conducted by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-12) and local police here in Barangay Poblacion here.

Chief Inspector Sonny Leoncito, Matalam town police chief, identified the suspects as Omar Datala alias "Sam," a resident of Pikit, North Cotabato and Pendatukan Salapitan alias "Tuks" from Pagalungan, Maguindanao.

According to Leoncito, the suspects noticed the buy-bust operation and swiftly tossed a hand grenade to the operating team, forcing them to retaliate resulting to the death of the suspects.

"We are intensifying campaign against illegal drug personalities aimed at eradicating social menace in our community before they could destroy our future generations," Leoncito said.

Both suspects were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physicians due to severe gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies.

No casualty was reported on the government side.

Authorities have recovered four sachets of suspected shabu, marked money and a .38 revolver.

Based on reports, the suspects were allegedly linked to a drug syndicate operating in towns of Mlang, Matalam, Kabacan and Kidapawan city and parts of Maguindanao.
