KIDAPAWAN CITY -- An employee of the Cotabato provincial government survived an attempt on her life while on her way to the office in Arakan, North Cotabato, around 6 a.m., on Monday.

Senior Inspector Arjay Celeste, chief of the Arakan municipal police station, identified the victim as Helen Andres, of Barangay Doruluman, Arakan.

Celeste said Andres was driving her motorcycle on her way to the office at Amas complex here when a still unidentified gunman, on board another motorcycle driven by a companion, shot her twice, along Sitio Balicongcong in Barangay Doruluman.

Andres, however, managed to elude attack by speeding her vehicle towards Barangay Poblacion, a thickly populated village in Arakan.

Sensing they would be in danger of being recognized by the bystanders, the gunmen decided to withdraw from the area, reports said.

Andres sought security assistance from the local police and had the incident recorded for further investigation.

Andres told police she could not think of any reason why somebody would want her ‘silenced.’
