NPAs kill another off-duty CAFGU member in North Cotabato, 3rd in five weeks,

NORTH COTABATO  --- Communist rebels shot dead an off-duty militiaman in Barangay Tumanding in Arakan town Thursday, the third in just five weeks. 

Angelito Lamana, a member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit, was killed inside his house by guerillas of the New People’s Army.

He was assigned at a CAFGU detachment in Salasang area in Barangay Tumanding, whose residents the NPA’s Guerilla Front 53 subject to collection of “protection money” on periodic basis.

Captain Silver Belvis, spokesman of the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion, which has jurisdiction over Arakan and nearby towns in North Cotabato, confirmed that the NPA was behind the murder of Lamana.

“Initial information reaching us indicated that he was hog-tied before he was shot dead,” Belvis said.

Marauding NPAs killed CAFGU member Joel Batawan in an ambush last September 20 in Barangay Santo Niño, Arakan.

Batawan was on a motorcycle en route to Barangay Ganatan, Arakan when NPAs positioned at one side of the road opened fire with assault rifles killing him on the spot.

NPAs shot dead in an ambush three days before Jeffrey Bitonio, also a CAFGU member, in Barangay Anapolon, Arakan.

Bitonio was riding his motorcycle on his way home from their detachment when rebels blocked his path and killed him using assault rifles.
