PNP: 1 gang behind Koronadal robbery cases; Kidapawan NPA sympathizers yield

KORONADAL CITY  – Police authorities here eye an organized robbery gang to be behind the series of robbery cases involvign several business establishments the past days.

In August, six business established had been robbed where the suspects carted away thousands of cash and valuables. The robbery took place even as the city is enforcing curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

"Persons of interest had been identified," Supt. Ronald Alan Penaverde, Koronadal City police director.

He said the suspects had been using the same "modus operandi" that is using the establishment's ceiling as point of entry.

All burglarized establishments have no close circuit TV cameras or security guards.

Robbed establishments include a pawnshop, money remittance center, drug store, motorcycle company. This month, another drug store and a motorcycle store was also robbed.

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The Army's 39th Infantry Battalion today said 15 sympathizers of communist New Peoples Army have voluntarily surrendered Tuesday morning.

Lt. Silver Belvis, speaking for the 39th IB, said the surrenderees were from Barangay Katipunan, Kidapawan City, including the village chair and members of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT).

The village official was not identified in the report.

It was in Barangay Katipunan where the Army arrested two NPA members and seized 20 Armalite rifles and two fragmentation grenades.
