KORONADAL CITY -- Police authorities in Norala, South Cotabato are digging deeper to determine the suspect and motive of the murder of a tribal chieftain on Friday.

Chief Inspector Conrado Jovero Jr, Norala town police chief, identified the slain indigenous peoples' leader as Venie Diamante, 43, a B'laan and resident of Sitio Lambusong, Barangay Puti, Norala.
  

Initial investigation showed that Diamante, Norala's municipal tribal chieftain, was heading for home on board a motorbike when shot by still unidentified gunmen for still unknown reason.

He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in various parts of his body.  Scene of the crime operatives found five empty shells for cal. 45 pistol.

Police could not say as of yet whether or not the attack on Diamante has something to do with his position or something personal.
