KORONADAL CITY – Two odd hacking and bow and arrow attack cases were reported to police in South Cotabato over the weekend. One of the victims died while the other was hospitalized. The suspects were influenced by liquor.

And both the victims were not alien to the suspects as they were closely related by blood.

In this city, a sitio (sub-village) leader, identified as Norbing Tio Lagsil, 42, leader of Sitio Nga-Bango, Barangay Saravia, was killed when his uncle Bagural Malayang Lagsil, 57 hit him with an arrow.

Barangay Saravia Chairperson Gregorio Presga said the elder Lagsil was drunk and creating trouble in the village.  He was armed with an arrow, locally known as “Sibat.”

Presga said on Sunday afternoon, the sitio leader was trying to calm down his uncle who was allegedly challenging anyone to a fight.

Instead, the elder Lagsil turned his ire on his nephew and hit him with an arrow.  An arrow is a projectile launched from a bow but the suspect simply used his hand in launching the attack.

The sitio leader was hit in his chest and died before reaching the hospital.

Responding village watchmen and the police arrested Lasgil hours after the attack.   Police are also hunting down Lasgil’s companions identified by village officials as Fernando Lagsil Balicio, 48 and Edward Gandi Palala, 24, both farmers and resident of the village.

Meanwhile, in Polomolok, South Cotabato, farmer Renante Laydan, 49, ran amok in Barangay Landan Sunday afternoon and hacked his younger brother Lorenzo Jr, 39.

Monia Laydan, 66, the siblings’ mother, said they both went on a drinking spree and went home together.

As soon as the brothers arrived home, Renante had a heated altercation with his wife. Lorenzo, armed with a machete, tried to pacify his elder brother and tried to grab the bolo.

As both scuffled control over the machete, Lorenzo was hit in his head, particularly on his right ear.   The mother said Renante has no plans of pressing charges against his elder brother.
