Sultan Kudarat province under state of calamity due to floods
TACURONG CITY – The provincial board of Sultan Kudart todayplced
the entire province under state of calamity due to floods that hit low lying
communities last week, a disaster official today said.
Henry Albano, Sultan Kudarat Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Council (PDRRMC), said the declaration came after more than P300 million worth
of agricultural products were destroyed by flas floods in the towns of Lutayan,
Lambayong, Bagumbayan, Isulan, Esperanza, President Quirino and Tacurong City.
Albano said the declaration would allow the provincial government to use
its calamity fund for the affected farmers who are still reeling from the
losses due to the dry spell early this year.
He said the displaced families have already returned home.
The flash floods also damaged flood control projects and a hanging
bridge in Lambayong and Esperanza, both in Sultan Kudarat.
Albano said the PDRRMC is continuously monitoring the water level of Ala
river as well as other tributaries in the province. (Ferdinandh Cabrera)
