Elections in JTF Central AOR generally peaceful

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – The midterm national and local election in the provinces of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, 11 municipalities in North Cotabato, and 5 municipalities in the coastal areas of Lanao del Sur were generally peaceful.

The positive result is attributed to the close coordination, meetings, conferences and synchronized efforts between the security forces and the COMELEC together with other concerned stakeholders to ensure that there will be no election failure.

Cotabato City Mayor Sayadi leads mayoralty race

COTABATO CITY - Reelectionist Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani Sayadi leads the mayoralty race as against Rep. Bai Sandra Sema based on partial and unofficial results of canvassing of votes of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and Parish Pastoral Council for REsponsible Voting (PPCRV).

This is based on 91 percent of total number of election returns processed by the Commission on Elections posted at 5:30 a.m.

In mayoralty race, Sayadi had 31,779 votes, Bai Sandra Sema had 19,749 and Delson Uytaranco with 92.

BARMM's chief minister voting for 2nd time since joining government

MAGUINDANAO -- Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Hadji Ahod Ebrahim voted for favored candidates Monday, an exercise he never believed in until the Moro Islamic Liberation Front forged a peace deal with Malacañang.
Murad, chairman of the MILF, is a registered voter in Barangay Simuay in Sultan Kudarat town in the first district of Maguindanao.

“I voted for provincial, congressional and senatorial candidates according to what my heart told me. I voted for candidates with good service records and are dedicated to serving people,” Ebrahim said.

Maguindanao exec hurt in hacking, 3 hurt in strafing

COTABATO CITY -- Police are hunting down people behind the hacking and strafing incidents in Parang, Maguindanao that injured the municipal administrator and 3 others, police said.

“We believed the two separate incidents were related,” Police Major Rajiv Alih, police chief of Parang municipal police station, said.

He identified the hacking victim as Municipal Administrator Usman Ibay III, a resident of Parang and brother of town Mayor Ibrahim Ibay.

Blasts rock Cotabato City and Maguindanao ahead of polls

COTABATO CITY – Blasts hit this city and the town of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao hours before the start of polling today, police said.

Two 40mm rifle grenades fired from a distance exploded about 30 meters away from the compound of Cotabato City Hall in Barangay Rosary Heights 10.

“Nobody was hurt and it was clearly aimed at sowing fear among the electorate,” Colonel Michael Lebanan, city police director said.

No one has claimed responsibility in the grenade blasts near the children’s park of Barangay Rosary Heights 10.

2.4M Soccsksargen residents to cast votes in Monday polls

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Some 2.431 million residents in Region 12 or Soccsksargen are expected to troop to polling centers and cast their votes in Monday's local and national mid-term elections.

Lawyer Renato Magbutay, Commission on Elections (Comelec)-12 regional director, said on Sunday the region's 3,197 clustered precincts and 1,382 polling centers are all ready for the automated voting.

Data released by Comelec-12 showed that the number of registered voters in the region increased by a total of 345,153 from 2,086,112 in the 2016 elections.

MILF, MNLF, village chiefs’ help sought to ensure peaceful polls

COTABATO CITY -- Military authorities in Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat provinces have sought the assistance of village officials, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) as front-liners to ensure honest, orderly and peaceful elections (HOPE) on Monday.

Lt. Col. Elmer Boongaling, the commander of the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion (33IB), has met with village officials of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat, and reminded them of their vital role in assuring that elections in their respective communities are orderly and peaceful.

Lanao Norte cop securing voting center shot dead

ILIGAN CITY -- A police corporal detailed with the Kapatagan Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Lanao del Norte succumbed to death after he was shot several times by riding in tandem in Barangay Panoloon, Sapad town past 3 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, identified as Richard Garcia Gordiones, 30, a resident of Poblacion, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, was pronounced dead on arrival at the provincial hospital in Kapatagan.
