All systems go for May 9 polls: Comelec

MANILA – It’s all systems go for the May 9, 2022 national and local elections (NLE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday.

“We are all systems go. We are just waiting for the date of the elections. We have conducted final testing and sealing (FTS) and the problems we have already addressed,” Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said in a press briefing.

“We are 100 percent all set for May 9,” he added.

BARMM teachers cry foul on substitution as poll workers

MANILA – More than 200 public school teachers protested Thursday their removal as electoral board members for Cotabato City.

Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, who is seeking reelection, said the teachers were summoned to a supposed orientation by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MBHTE-BARMM) but were taken aback by what transpired.

BARMM sends cops, soldiers too, for poll security duties

PARANG, Maguindanao - The Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) together with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Department of Education (DepEd), and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) formally sent off troops who will secure the polls this May 9, 2022 at the PRO BAR Grandstand in Camp Salipada K Pendatun, Parang, Maguindanao on May 4, 2022.

Comelec issues guidelines on vote-buying violations

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday reminded registered voters against vote-buying and vote-selling.

In a memorandum issued by Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, chairperson of Task Force Bigay, the voting public was advised about the consequences of committing any act in violation thereof.

It also directed the law enforcement agencies to strictly enforce the statutory prohibition against vote-buying and vote-selling.

More troops deployed in politically-troubled Lanao Sur town

COTABATO CITY --- A hundred more soldiers had been deployed in the politically hostile Malabang town in Lanao del Sur to help ensure peaceful elections in the area on May 9.

The Commission on Elections had placed Malabang under its control due to the tension between two camps that each pitted a candidate for municipal mayor.

MILF, UBJP support “ROSA tandem” 

COTABATO CITY  – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) today said the party is backing up the candidacy of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, supporting claims by some groups pushing for ROSA or “Robredo Sara” tandem.

“Yes, the MILF is supporting Mayor Sara Duterte vice presidential bid,” Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo, secretary general of United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), the MILF’s political group, Sunday, eight days before elections.

Earlier, MILF chief Ahod “Kagi Murad’ Ebrahim, also UBJP president, told reporters that the party is also supporting Mayor Sara.

MNLF is for presidential candidate with `heart for peace process'

COTABATO CITY --- Members of the Moro National Liberation Front shall vote for a presidential candidate who shall sustain the gains of all agreements between the MNLF and Malacañang.

Muslimin Sema, chairman of the MNLF’s central committee and labor minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, said Saturday they shall have one vote for a presidential candidate who has “a big heart” for the Mindanao peace process.

Catamco's political leader in Carmen town hurt in gun attack

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Unidentified gunmen shot and wounded one of North Cotabato Gov. Nancy Catamco’s supporters in Carmen, North Cotabato.

Catamco strongly condemned the attack against Johnny Sanchez, 28, a resident of Barangay Aroman, Carmen, North Cotabato.

Sanchez was shot by two still unidentified gunmen at about 7 p.m. Friday in the village basketball court in Barangay Aroman. The suspects fled on a motorbike.

Aspirant for Koronadal council dies due to cardiac arrest

KORONADAL CITY –– An engineer who is seeking a seat in the city council here under the slate of incumbent mayor has died due to cardiac arrest, relatives and partymates said.

The 65-year-old Engr. Wilfredo Aguilar was found unconscious by his wife Lourdes at about 4 a.m. and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

BARMM exec foresees peaceful 2022 polls

COTABATO CITY  – An official of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has expressed optimism the elections in the region will be peaceful and orderly.

Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo, BARMM local government minister, said he sees no reason to place the entire BARMM under election hot spot as in the past and previous elections.

He said the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that will actively participate in the balloting for the first time in history have vowed to help ensure elections will be peaceful.
