8 killed, 2 wounded as warring families clashed in Sulu island town

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PNA) – Eight people were killed while two others were wounded in a firefight between two warring families in an island town in the province of Sulu, a top military official disclosed Wednesday.Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, disclosed the firefight broke out around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday in Sitio Masillam, Barangay Pislong, Siasi, Sulu.Siasi, which comprises of 50 barangays, is an island town classified as second class municipality of Sulu.Arrojado, quoting a police report, identified three of the eight fatalities as Sakili Musahari, Kolar Amado and Al-Mackdil Alam. The identities of the other five were not immediately available.Al-Mackdil is the son of Alam Sayadi, the leader of one of the two armed groups that figured in the firefight. The leader of the other group is Rashid Hadjiluddin, the former barangay chairman of Pislong.Arrojado said that Sayadi was among the two persons wounded in the firefight. The other was Alsid Ilaji.Arrojado said the firefight broke out after the group of Sayadi attacked the group of Hadjiludin at Sitio Masillam, Barangay Pislong, Siasi.He said the firefight stopped at 6 p.m. Tuesday based on the report of the police in Siasi town.He said the motive of the incident was family feud locally known as rido.”He said the police in Siasi town have sought the intervention of the municipal government officials in order for the warring families to reach a settlement.
