ACF thanks Filipinos for supporting campaign vs. malnutrition
KIDAPAWAN CITY -The ACF Philippines, a humanitarian organization, expressed appreciation to Filipinos for signing a petition dubbed as, ‘Generation Nutrition.” The global campaign, launched over a year ago, has called to stop children dying from malnutrition. Dyan Aimee Rodriguez, advocacy coordinator of ACF International on the Generation Nutrition campaign, told Filipinos that signed the petition were those that refused to keep silent over the ‘scandal’ of children’s lives lost or damaged due to malnutrition. For Rodriquez, the Generation Nutrition has grown to become a ‘force’ and vital to helping end hunger, achieve food security, improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture, which is part of Goal Number 2 under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), a global campaign that aims to reduce the number of children affected by acute malnutrition or ‘wasting’. Since April 2014, at least 93 thousand people signed the petition. In the Philippines, some 6,000 Filipinos joined it. By signing our petition, it increased the pressure on governments to put the fight against acute malnutrition,” said Rodriquez. Last week, at the United Nations in New York, world leaders have made a commitment to end all forms of malnutrition and hunger by 2030. This, according to Rodriquez, included a target to nearly halve the number of children who suffer from acute malnutrition in the next ten years. But, our work is not finished yet.Governments are currently deciding on indicators to help measure progress towards the sustainable development goals,” she stressed.
