COTABATO CITY -- Liberal Party (LP) bigwigs in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to help the Commission on Elections administer an orderly electoral exercise in ARMM’s 116 component towns on May 9.ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman, LP’s regional figurehead for the autonomous region, and his staunch political allies, Governors Esmael Mangudadatu and Mamintal Adiong, Jr. of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, respectively, agreed during a meeting in Marawi City, to maximize their cooperation with the security efforts of Comelec. Also present in their informal dialogue in Marawi City, at the sideline of a traditional 7thday kandori (thanksgiving) rite for the death of Adiong’s spouse, Raifa, who succumbed to breast cancer last week, was ARMM’s reelectionist Regional Vice Governor Haroun Al-Rashid Lucman.Hataman, Adiong, Mangudadatu, Lucman and LP leaders from ARMM’s island provinces signed three weeks ago in Cotabato City a covenant binding them to abide by the Omnibus Election Code and reject the use of violence in pushing their political aspirations forward during the May 9 synchronized local, regional and presidential polls.Hataman, Lucman and Mangudadatu are both seeking reelection as official LP candidates.During their latest meeting, Adiong and Mangudadatu again refuted vehemently insinuations purporting that they support the candidacy of Sulu Vice Gov. Sakur Tan for ARMM governor.Tan, also an LP member, filed his certificate of candidacy for ARMM governor without written imprimatur from President Benigno Aquino III and the national directorate of the administration party.Adiong said they are obedient LP members and cannot, thus, support Tan's candidacy in whatever way.Two younger siblings of Mangudadatu, Khadafeh, a senior member of the ARMM’s 24-seat Regional Legislative Assembly, and Freddie, mayor of Mangudadatu town in the 2nddistrict of Maguindanao, who were both in the meeting, also assured to help ensure peaceful and orderly elections in towns where they have political bailiwicks.
