Cops arrest illegal recruiters, rescue victims

COTABATO CITY - Police
authorities here arrested on Monday suspected illegal recruiters and rescued
the victims from Gen. Santos City at a police checkpoint here.

Senior
Supt. Rex Anongos, Cotabato City police chief, identified the suspects as Abdullah
Ali Baroba, 30, driver of Mitsubishi Adventure used in transporting the victims
to Marawi City Marlo Maghanoy, 52 and
his wife Lusviminda, 52, both of Barangay Labangal, Gen Santos City, and Sittie
Indad Omar, 52 of Saguiran, Lanao del Sur.

Anongos alsoidentified the rescued victims Kristine Joy Quioga, 21 of Malapatan, Saranggani
Roquesa Taripe, 23 of Barangay Fatima, Gen. Santos City Rebecca Bacay and Eden Cabca, both of Alabel,
Saranggani Suraya Talino, 18 of Barangay Katangawan, Gen Santos City and a
minor girl who was recruited without the knowledge of her parents.

They were allegedly recruited to work as house helpers
in Marawi City with a promise of huge monthly salaries, Anongos told DXMS-AM Radyo Bida.

Anongos said the Gen. Santos City PNP
coordinated with the city police about the possible entry of a Mitsubishi
Adventure loaded with victims of illegal recruitment.

He saidelements of the Regional Public Safety Battalion 12 based in Tamontaka
bridge outpost flagged down the vehicle and arrested the suspects.

The
rescued victims have been turned over to the Gen. Santos City PNP and have
returned to their parents while the suspects remained at Police Station 3
detention cell.
