Council lauds Tacurong City's special project for children

KORONADAL CITY -The Provincial Council for the Protection of Children Evaluation Team lauded Mayor Lina O. Montilla’s special projects on children’s welfare during the annual assessment of the City’s Local Council for the Protection of Children on July 1, 2015.The evaluation team noted projects such as the Busog Lusog Talino School Feeding Program, Project PAGLAUM MDG-FACES, and PEACE Learning Camp. The LGU’s support to the Special Program for the Employment of Students or SPES was also commended.Moreover, the Team hopes that other LGU will replicate Tacurong City’s implementation of the Kalinga sa mga Batang Lansangan Program. Mayor Montilla welcomed the commendation but did not claim credits alone. She said credit should also go to all the stakeholders.This program was institutionalized through a City Ordinance authored by City Councilor Psyche M. Sucaldito and is now on its fifth year.Further, the Evaluation Team gave comments and recommendations on crafting a road map for the council.Tacurong LCPC’s sectoral duty bearers were present during the evalution. Duty bearers include the City Social Welfare and Development Office, City Health Office, DepEd, Philippine National Police –Women andamp Children Concern Desk (PNP-WCPD), City Budget Office, City Planning andamp Development Office.The Poblacion Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) was also involved during the assessment process. According to the evaluators they have chosen Barangay Poblacion based on the listing and score obtained during the evaluation City Evaluation Team headed by City DILG Officer Alberto Sero, Jr.The Evaluation Team is composed of the Department of Interior and Local Government –SK Province, Provincial Planning andamp Development Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Health Office, PNP PHQ Sultan Kudarat, and NCIP.LCPCs are evaluated annually to gauge functionality in implementing programs and projects for children. It also intends to examine policy in governance issues in the organization. LCPCs are required to mainstream child rights in their local plans. Programs for children must be creative, comprehensive, and sustained. Sectors, as duty bearers, must work as a team to achieve the objectives of addressing the rights of the children in terms of Survival, Development, Participation and Protection.
