DENR-ARMM, Parang LGU sign co-management pact on mangroves
COTABATO CITY - Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DENR-ARMM) today lauded the efforts ofParang, Maguindanao to protect its marine resources.Sec. Kahal Kedtag of DENR-ARMM also urged other local government units in the coastal towns of the autonomous region to emulate the efforts of Parang local govenrment in preserving the coastal areas.The Parang LGU and DENR-ARMM has recently signed a co-management agreement on mangroves, a joint project which aims to maintain mangrove areas along the coast of Parang.Kedtag said the mangroves are known habitat of various fish species and its protection means maintaining marine supplies for the people of Parang and nearby areas.Kedtag added thatmangroves should begiven much attention because it has protective functions in the coastal areas aside from marine life sanctuary.
