Earthquakes hit Davao Oriental, Saranggani, Sultan Kudarat

COTABATO CITY - As the country conducted earthquake drills across the islands, four earthquakes hit three provinces in Mindanao Friday, the state volcanology office today said.A magnitude 4.2 earthquake hit Gov Generoso town inthe province of Davao Oriental on Friday morning and another quake at 3:57 in the afternoon,according to a bulletin issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs)Phivolcs saidthe firsttremorwith a magnitude of 4.2 was recorded at9:45 a.m. Its epicenter was traced 68 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental. It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 40 kilometers.Phivolcs saidIntensity 2 was felt in General Santos City. At 3.57 p.m. Friday, a magnitude 4.1 quake was also recorded by Phivolcs with its epicenter traced 122 kilometers southeast of Tarrangona, also in Davao Oriental.Like the first tremor, the second was also tectonic in origin and has a depth of 17 kilometers,Phivolcs said.At 12:02 p.m. today, a magnitude 2.9 hit Alabel, Saranggani province with the epicenter traced 17 kilometers north of Alabel town.It has a depth of 26 kilometers and tectonic in origin.At 5:01 a.m. a magnitude 3.4quake also hit Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat, the second tremor to hit the coastline of the province in two days.Tectonic in origin, the quake has a depth of 23 kilometers.On July 29, at 2:51 a.m. a magnitude 4.8 hit Palimbang with the epicenter traced 190 kilometers south of the coastal town.Phivolcs said nocasualty or damages to property was. It added on indication of aftershocks.
