PANDAG, Maguindanao -- A gunman on Friday blasted a 40 millimeter shoulder-fire grenade in a cornfield here, causing panic among villagers tilling their farms nearby.Local officials are still clueless on the motive for setting off an explosive projectile in a corn farm in Kayuko area in Pandag, located in the second district of Maguindanao.Police investigators said the grenade was fired from a distance using either a vintage single-shot M-79 launcher, or an M203 rifle.Intelligence operatives of the Army’s 33rdInfantry Battalion, which has jurisdiction over Pandag and nearby towns, are now helping the police identify the culprit. The Pandag municipal peace and order council, chaired by Mayor Jihan Mamalinta-Mangudadatu, is also helping investigate on the incident.Pandag is touted as Maguindano’s most peaceful municipality and Friday’s incident was something new to local folks.
