Man, woman arrested for gun possession in Matalam

MATALAM, North Cotabato - A man and a woman were arrested for illegal possession of firearms after they failed to present documents to police officers manning a highway checkpoint here Sunday.Policemen conducting inspection in near Cotabato Sugar Central Corporation in Barangay Poblacion confiscated two firearms from Boracay Andig Salido, 21: Merna Mama Salido, 31, both of Barangay Kibia, Matalam.They yielded a cal. 45 pistol with extra magazines and 9mm pistol with magazines, respectively.Senior Insp. Elias Colonia, Matalam police chief, said the two could not provide documents legalizing their possession of firearms. The two who are now detained at Matalam PNP lock-up cell,also refused to reveal why they carry guns.
