KIDAPAWAN CITY – Senator Risa Hontiveros became an “instant godparent” to a couple wed by Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista here amid aftershocks Monday morning.

Corporal Cleobert King of Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion exchanges “I do’s” with his fiancée Felmarie Dasdas of Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City with the senator as one of the sponsors.

Evangelista was scheduled to administer marriage to the couple when the senator arrived for a visit to quake victims.

Before Evangelista presented Hontiveros the updates on the extent of damages of the earthquakes to Kidapawan City, he asked the lawmaker if it was okay that he officiate the marriage first.

“Okay, it’s okay,” she told Evangelista. Hontiveros readily agreed when the soldier asked her to stand as one of the sponsors.

Sen. Hontiveros sits beside the mayor during the marriage ceremonies inside the Incident Command Center in front of the Kidapawan City hall.

Felmarie and Cleobert both said they were so blessed a lady senator became one of their “ninangs.”

“This is a blessing, we appreciate your presence mam,” Cleobert said after the marriage rites.

Hontiveros then handed over her calling card to the couple, telling them to give her a ring so she can send in her “gift.”

Evangelista said the wedding has been scheduled long before the series of quakes rocked Kidapawan City and nearby areas.

Aftershocks were recorded by Phivolcs during the wedding ceremonies but many of them were not felt by the residents.
