KIDAPAWAN CITY – Instead of getting himself a medication due to his alleged mental illness, a farmer landed inside a police lock-up cell here after authorities recovered from him an unlicensed pistol during highway inspection Friday. City police director, Superintendent John Meridel Calinga, identified the suspect as Patrocinio Ramos Bulario, 73, and a resident of Barangay Amas, this city. Bulario was onboard a Toyota hi-ace van with plate number TY 5525 when intercepted along the highway here at 8 a.m. The car was driven by Senior Jail Officer 3 Jessie Bulario, the suspect’s son. Bulario, according to relatives, was suffering from schizophrenia. SJO3 Bulario said they were on their way to Davao City to bring their patient to a medical institution for treatment. But the city police here was given information that such van was bringing an alleged kidnap victim. After getting such tip from an informant, Calinga immediately ordered his men to conduct surprise highway check. With help from the Traffic Management Unit, the van was flagged down and ordered inspection. Bulario handed his bag, which, when checked was found to have inside a .9mm pistol with a magazine. Immediately, Bulario was brought to the police station where he was locked inside the cell while complaint of illegal possession of pistol is being prepared against him.
