DAVAO CITY -A candidate for councilor in Midsayap, North Cotabato was killed by a man who was also killed by responding police here on Sunday, police said.Senior Insp. Milgrace Driz, Davao City policespokesperson, identified the slain candidate as Bong Mangadta, a resident of Purok 26, Barangay 76-A, Davao City.Citing police reports, Driz said Mangadta was with his is wife in front of a variety store when a lone gunman, armed with two hand guns, approached from behind then shot him in the head.The gunman fled on foot while villagers rushed Mangadta to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.A witness told a local radio station here thatthe gunman ran toward a open lot near SM Ecoland as villagers chased him.Other villagers alerted 911 emergency unit which responded. The suspect who remained unidentified, refused to surrender but traded bullets with responding police.He was killed in the process. Driz believed the shooting was triggered by personal grudge. She was unsure if it has something to do with his running as town councilor.Recovered from the gunman were two hand guns, a cal. 45 pistol and ca. 38 revolver.
