Rep. Hataman's bill seeks to create Women-Child Friendly Space

COTABATO CITY - Anak Mindanao Partylist Rep. Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman has filed a bill seeking for the establishment of permanent evacuation centers in calamity prone areas of the country.Hataman filed House Bill 5787, also known as Women-Child Friendly Space, which seeks to establish evacuation centers that has facilities for women, lactating mothers and children evacuees.

In her explanatory note, Hataman said her personal observations showed that sex and gender-based violence that occur in evacuation centers was alarming. Many of these cases were unreported.She said child and womenabuse were common in a disorganized evacuation center, a temporary home for peopled evicted from their communities not because of their own making but due to calamities, both man-made and natural.
