KORONADAL CITY -- More farmers are joining peasants groups in Kidapawan City as they vowed to continue protesting government's inaction on their demand for rice.Among the groups that joined the North Cotabato farmers were coming from South Cotabato. They held a brief picket rally in front of Koronadal City police office expressing support for Kidapawan farmers. We sympathize with our colleagues in Kidapawan City who suffered in the hands of police on April 1, said a farmer leader in an interview by DXOM-AM Radyo Bida. They later dispersed quietly. The farmers, who blocked portions of Davao-Cotabato highway to demand for rice after the province has been placed under state of calamity, were dispersed on Friday. The dispersal was violent as it led to the death of three farmers and wounding of more than 100 others. To date, the protesting farmers remained inside the United Methodist Church guarded bypolice personnel armed with truncheons and shields.Armed members of the Police Special Action Force stood nearby. The Kidapawan City Civil DisturbanceReports have it that militant farmers from Bukidnon, Davao region, Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao are joining the protesting farmers for a bigger rally Monday. However, some farmers agreed to go home with the help of the provincial government of North Cotabato. Dump trucks loaded with farmers were seen boarding the dump trucks Sunday noon. sand//scontent-nrt1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xla1/v/t1.0-9/12512675_1661653754096587_7541803602734558719_n.jpg?_nc_eui=ARjQ0dtPcsos6pA2a38cxH_UryNmvkNpiQrI-wtT3sdx8BiHDlbVgoJZ7Et1andampoh=da26a9275937be31481c86572b9aebf6andampoe=57758E5B (Some of the protesting farmers board a dump truck form provincial government en route to their homes in Arakan, North Cotabato - photo by Ebs Unayan)
