South Cotabato cop survives assassination attempt

POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato -- A police officer survived an assassination attempt in Barangay Pagalungan here on Monday night.Supt. Jose Briones, South Cotabato police provincial director, identified the victim as PO1 Joel Suminog.Suminog, assigned with the South Cotabato Police provincial public safety company, was riding on his motorbike heading for home when two men raiding tandem on separate motorbike opened fire on him at past 7:45 p.m. Suminog was from Koronadal City when he noticed the two men were tailing him until he reached Polomolok.He was hit on his armpit and the bullet pierce through his chest. Despite the injuries, Suminog managed to pull his service firearm and traded shots with the suspects until they fled.It was uncertain if the suspects were hit.
