Suspects in shooting of Rasalan arrested, charged
COTABATO CITY – Police announced here
today the arrest and filing of charges against two men believed to be behind
the frustrated murder of Aniceto Rasalan last week.
Senior Supt. Rex Anongos, Cotabato City police
chief, said Nasser Diocolano of Barangay Marquez, Datu Odin Sinsuat,
Maguindanao was arrested an hour after Rasalan was shot and seriously wounded
along Sinsuat Avenue, Cotabato City on July 22.
Anongos said Diocolano, a farmer, was flagged down
at a checkpoint in Tamontaka, Cotabato City.An unlicensed cal. 45 pistol was seized from him.
Few days later, Teng Wahab Gani was also arrested
for possession of an unlicensed cal. 45 pistol.
Anongos said the photos of the two suspects were
presented to Rasalan who positively identified them as the same persons who
shot him while he was driving a government issued L-300 van.
The two denied the charges against them. Diocolano
admitted he carried a gun for self-defense.
Anongos said the firearms taken from the suspects
and the slugs recovered at the crime scene were subjected to laboratory test
for matching. He did not reveal the
results.Rasalan is secretary of Cotabato City Mayor Japal Guiani Jr.The Rasalan shooting was one of the many shooting incidents that have been happening in the city, mostly on a daily basis.
