Educ official bans ambulant vendors outside school

COTABATO CITY -- Education officials in the city have ordered
a ban on sidewalk vendors outside school grounds even as it startedinspection on all school canteen to ensure food sold to pupils are safe.

The action came after alleged food poisoning
among pupils in Caraga region, Kidapawan City and Aleosan were reported last
week.

More than 2,000 pupils have been hospitalized in
Caraga region after eating durian candy.

Concepcion Balawag, Cotabato City schools division superintendent,
said the Department of Education and the Department of Health have agreed to
ban ambulant vendors outside school premises.

Balawag ordered all school heads and principals in the city schools division
not to allow school children to buy food from sidewalks vendors in front of
school grounds.
