IP pupil wins World Food Day 2015 mosaic painting contest

KORONADAL CITY --A grade school pupil from Lugan Central Elementary School of Barangay Poblacion, T’boli, South Cotabato was adjudged winner of the regional on-the-spot poster making contest in celebration of this year’s World Food Day. Oscarjay Cuer, a Grade VI pupil from LCES, bested other participants from the four divisions of SOCCSKSARGEN region that joined the contest. As the regional winner, Cuer received P3, 000 cash prize, medal, certificate and he will represent the region to the national competition in Manila on October 9-10. My poster shows cooperation as an efficient way to improve our technologies in farming and fishing for us to eliminate food scarcity and rural poverty, Cuer shared as he described his winning piece. Other winners included Gesella Grace Estrella of Tacurong City and Rhodsiel Mei Barrera of Norala town as second and third placers respectively. Initiated by the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Information Section (RAFIS) of DA RFO 12, along with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Department of Education 12, the regional contest was held yesterday at the Dep-Ed 12 building in Koronadal City. As part of the contest mechanics, RAFIS Chief Nelly Ylanan said, the participants utilized different agricultural products like grains of palay, corn kernels and beans in making their posters. Aside from that, they also used seafoods like dried fishes, sea shells among others. Agricultural products like feeds for animals also added colors to their artworks, aside from drawing materials like oil pastel, according to Ylanan. The participants, she explained, created their posters based on the themeand Social Protection and Agricultureand Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty.” Meantime, Ylanan thanked DA 12 Regional Executive Director Amalia Jayag-Datukan for her all-out support in this undertaking as well as to DepEd 12 Regional Director Allan Farnazo who graced the activity. In an interview with Agri Tayo SOCCSKSARGEN, Cuer’s coach Ralph Vincent Feller said, he was very happy for the positive turn-out of their constant practice and training before the contest. We will do some enhancements in our poster as what the judges had recommended us to do during the coaching session to make sure that we will be included in the top 5 in the national level,” Feller remarked. Three experts on the field composed the panel of judges that included fashion designer, make-up artist and visual artist Akmad Kari mural artist, cartoonist and a faculty member of University of Southern Mindanao Ariel Sadulang and Danilo Doguiles of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA 12). Last year, Lee Roy Ocsio, a pupil of Koronadal Central Elementary School, was the contest’s winner last year.
