Researcher perish in river accident in Basilan 

BASILAN  --- A researcher was accidentally drowned in a river while on a weekend outing with co-workers in an upland area in Maluso town in this province Saturday.

The 26-year-old Desire Mae Somobay was swept away by rampaging waters flowing downstream the Mahayahay River in a hinterland eco-tourism site in Maluso that suddenly overflowed after a brief but heavy rain fell on tropical rainforests in mountains upstream.

65th IB recover large IED in abandoned NPA lair

COTABATO CITY --- Soldiers found this week a 10-kilo improvised explosive device in an abandoned enclave of the New People’s Army in Cagayan de Oro City.

Lt. Col. Benjamin Pajarito Jr. of the Army’s 65th Infantry Battalion said Saturday the home-made bomb was planted like a booby trap along a route leading to an NPA lair in Barangay Pigsag-an in Cagayan de Oro City.

The IED was rigged with a contraption that could set off its detonator once tripped or accidentally touched even with slight pressure.

Philippine Marines secures Bongao town day and night

TAWI-TAWI --- Servicemen of the 9th Marine Battalion of the Philippine Marine Corps do random patrols in Bongao to maintain peace in the municipality, capital of Tawi-Tawi.

Tawi-Tawi is known as the most peaceful province in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao that also covers Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, both in mainland Mindanao, and the islands of Basilan and Sulu.

The unit is also involved in civil-military projects meant to foster cordiality between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Bongao’s mixed Muslim and Christian communities.

Creation of 3 Isabela City LGU outfits to boost governance mulled  

ISABELA CITY --- The Sangguniang Panglungsod is now deliberating on the proposed creation of three entities to boost the public service thrusts of the city government.

Also being deliberated for the SP’s imprimatur is the “freedom of information,” or FOI ordinance for domestic application.

The Isabela City SP is chaired by Vice Mayor Kifli Salliman, its presiding officer.

LAMITAN CITY ---There are two lowly ambulance boat skippers here whose dedication to serve the poor are fascinating local residents.

Jumdail Andal and Peter Go, each operating a sea ambulance of the Lamitan City government, have ferried 254 sick people to Zamboanga City for medication in one voyage after another in the past 24 months even.

Police uproot 50 marijuana plants in Tampakan, S. Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY - Inaalam ngayon ng mga pulis kung sino ang cultivator ng mahigit 50 puno ng marijuana plants na kanilang nakumpiska sa Tampakan, South Cotabato noong July 10.

Ang nasabing mga marijuana plants ay natuklasan sa anti illegal drug operation ng Tampakan PNP na pinamumunuan ni Police Maj. Joseph Villanueva sa liblib na Sitio ng Alyong , Barangay Danlag sa nasabing bayan.

Hindi na naabutan ng raiding team sa lugar ang may ari ng na-uproot na mga Marijuana plants na nagkakahalaga ng mahigit P12,000.

1 kilo of shabu seized in Lanao Norte PDEA operation

LANAO DEL NORTE --- Agents seized P6.5 million worth of shabu from large-scale trafficker Jalil Akil Linog who fell in an entrapment Thursday in Balo-i town in this province.

Linog is among the top ten most wanted drug dealers operating in the adjoining Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur provinces in Region 10 and in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, respectively.

He was entrapped near a gasoline station in the town proper of Balo-I Thursday by agents of PDEA from Region 10, from BARMM and combined police and military personnel from both regions.

Cohort drug dealers arrested in Malungon

SARANGANI -- Two large-scale drug dealers were arrested in separate operations by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Malungon town on Tuesday.

The first to fall in one of the two operations by agents of the PDEA-12 is Sammy Garcia, 52, who was cornered in his hideout in Barangay Kiblat in Malungon.

His accomplice, the 46-year-old Allan Sano, was nabbed in Barangay Datal Tampal in the same town an hour later.
