2nd Davao Tribal Games to start Aug. 20
DAVAO CITY (PNA) -- The second Davao Tribal Games for Peace will be held on Aug. 20 at the People’s Park as one of the highlights in this year’s Kadayawan Festival here. It will again be participated by the five different tribes of the indigenous people of Davao,” said Tomas Jose Inigo, chairman of this year’s Tribal Games.The tribes are from the Ata, Klata, Tagabawa, Matigsalog and Ovu-Manovu. Each tribe has at least 50 athletes or members vying for the 12 tribal games,” said Inigo, who is also sports and games coordinator of the organizing Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office.The IPs will be seeing action in the tug-of-war, pana (bow and arrow), solopot (blowgun), sisibow or bubuntog (spear), siklot (sticks), karang (wood stilts), dagan (running), totarinki (fire making), sosakoro (water race), aakaw (wood sticks), bibinayo (rice) and kokasing. We will use again the points system to determine the over-all team results,” Inigo said.The over-all champion will earn Php 55,000 with a trophy while the second and third placers will pocket Php 45,000 and Php 35,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth will both get Php 20,000.Also billed as the Lumadnong Dula Davao Tribal Sports”, the one-day event is sponsored by the city government of Davao and organized by the SDD-CMO under OIC William Butch” Ramirez.
