5 LGUs gets P25-M each for town hall projects
COTABATO CITY --- Five municipalities got a P25 million town hall project each Thursday from the local government ministry of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The mayors of Butig, Sultan Dumalondog, Lumbaca Unayan and Poona Bayabao, all in Lanao del Sur, and Pandag in Maguindanao, and BARMM Local Government Minister Naguib Sinarimbo signed Thursday separate memorandums of agreement on the implementation of the projects.
The local government units of the five towns shall construct the buildings, with a common design depicting Moro identity, using funds from the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government-BARMM.
Mayor Zihan Mamalinta Mangudadatu of Pandag in the second district of Maguindanao said she was elated with the MILG’s town hall project worth P25 million for their municipality.
Pandag, created a decade ago by the Regional Legislative Assembly of the now defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, is still bereft of a municipal building.
“We shall implement this project religiously. We shall try our best to finish the construction of our municipal building on time,” Mangudadatu said.
Mayor Dimnatang Pansar of Butig said he is thankful to Sinarimbo’s office for embarking on the project.
“This is a big help. Our town hall was burned by members of the Maute terror group a couple of years ago. Soon we shall have a new town hall courtesy of the MILG-BARMM,” Pansar said.
The symbolic signing of the memorandum of agreements for the projects, held at the MILG-BARMM office in Cotabato City, was witnessed by Abdulraof Macacua, executive secretary of Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim.
Sinarimbo said the MILG-BARMM shall also provide grants for a number of other municipalities in the Bangsamoro region that do not have town halls yet.
The BARMM has 116 municipalities in its five provinces --- Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
The Bangsamoro region also covers the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan and Marawi.
Sinarimbo said the MILG-BARMM shall also construct police stations in towns that still do not have buildings that municipal police forces can use as command centers.
