DepEd imposes guided time in new technology use in classrooms
KORONADAL CITY - Seamless and thoughtful integration of new technologies in the classroom can make students more engaged and make them control their own learning, but irresponsible utilization of these new inventions can also destroy their studies. To ensure proper usage, guided time in using new technologies in the classroom is strictly observed by the Department of Education (DepEd) in Region 12. Gerardo Magno, DepEd 12 Regional Education Program Supervisor, said using new technologies is integral especially in high school, wherein children are required to used computers or internet in their information technology related classes. There must be guided time in making use of these technologies in schools, gadgets must be used with the supervision of teachers, this is one way of teaching the children how to use technology and not abuse them,” Gerardo told DXOM Thursday. Allowing of children inside internet café’s during classes hours is also prohibited because the education department cannot closely monitor them. In line with the National Reading Month Celebration, parents of pre-school and primary school children are encourage to inculcate in their minds the value of reading books at an early aged.
