Kidapawan councilor wants speed limit ordinance revised ASAP
KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A city councilor here is pushing for the immediate revision of an existing speed limit ordinance before another highway tragedy could happen again.Councilor Jivy Roe Bombeo, chair of the city council transportation and communications committee, said the currentspeed limit ordinance was already more than 19 years old and has been overtaken by time.Beside, Bombeo told DXND Radyo Bida , thatthe ordinancewas only applicable in the town proper of Kidapawan City.Passed in 1996,Bombeo said the ordinance only covers major streets in the city proper while accidents mostly happen along the national highways.On Monday, a consultation on Bombeo's proposal will be conducted where drivers and operators are invited and expected to provide inputs. We would like to ask all the stakeholders what is the ideal speed limit in all city streets, including the national highways, Bombeo told DXND Radyo Bida . It was not clear if the ordinance would include the acquisition of speed guns that traffic enforcers could use to determine the vehicle's speed.Last month, a hauler truck lost its brake system and smashed several vehicles in Barangay Balindog that left a tricycle driver dead and 30 others hurt.The victim was scheduled to marry his girlfriend before the highway mishap.
