Police anti-drug unit arrests North Cotabato town mayor

COTABATO CITY -- A town mayor
in North Cotabato was arrested after anti-drug police unit served search
warrants against him before dawn Saturday, a day after another mayor and his companions were killed in separate anti-drug operation.
In a staement sent to and//www.ndbcnews.com.ph www.ndbcnews.com.ph , Supt. Romeo Galgo Jr, police regional
spokesperson, said members of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations
Task Force (RAIDSOTF-12), Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) and
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-12) served the warrants at 3 a.m.
Saturday in three houses of Libungan Mayor Cuan in Barnagay Kabayuran,
Libungan, North Cotabato.
Galgo said the search warrants were
issued by Judge Alandrex Betoya of Regional Trial Court Branch 16 in Kabacan,
North Cotabato for illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs.
Recovered from Cuan’s home were an M-16
Armalite rifle, a 12-gauge shot gun, two cal. 45 pistols (Para 1911 and Colt), cal.
5.56 bushmaster and hundreds of ammunition and magazines for various calibers.
Cuan was not among the politicians
named by President Duterte in his August announcement of alleged narco-politicians.
Galgo
said Cuan will be committed to the court that issued the search warrants.A day earlier, Mayor Samsudin Dimaukom of Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao and nine of his companions were killed in the 4:10 a.m. police anti-drug operation in Barangay Old Bulatukan, Makilala, North Cotabato.Dimaukom and his wife wereearlier tagged by Duterte as among the country's narcopoliticians. No charges were filed against them and the Dimaukoms denied the allegations.
