Violence vs. women, children rising in North Cotabato
KIDAPAWAN CITY
– Police in North Cotabato said sexual assaults against women and minors are the
leading cases against women in the province this year.
At least 14
cases of violence against women have been reported during the third quarter of
2014, according to Cotabato Police Provincial Office o CPPO Women and
Children's Protection Desk Division Chief Senior Insp. Julie Melocotones.
She admitted
almost all the perpetrators remained at large and the subject of police
manhunt.
Melocotones
said most of the accused are personally known to the victim.
Because of the
rising cases of violence against women, Melocotones said her office is
conducting massive information drive in remote villages where sexual assaults
usually happen.
October is
Children’s Month.
Melocotones
said aside from rape, a number of children are in conflict with the law,
especially in Kidapawan City.
She appealed
to parents to guide their children, especially girls, so they are spared from
violence against women and other crimes. (N. Espino)
