Entingayen Festival show Teduray-Lambangian rich culture

TIMANAN, South Upi, Maguindanao - Colorful and rich Teduray-Lambangian culture and tradition was highlighted during the Entingayen Festival organized by Our Lady of Salvation Parish as it celebrates 34th patronal fiesta on Aug. 16: the Lumao National High School here.Traditional dress, colorful decors, traditional music and rendition take center stage as the festival was held over the weekend in Lumao National High School (LNHS) grounds in Sitio Guila-Guila,Barangay Kuya, South Upi. Entingayen” in Teduray roughly means everything God
has createdand in air, in land and in water.

The festival aims to share, promote and experience
the rich cultural heritage of the Teduray-Lambangian in Barangay Kuya and the
whole of South Upi, Maguindanao.With the theme Bridging the IPs for Peace and
Progress, the Entingayen Festival showed rich Teduray Lambangian culture which has been preserved and fought for amid development aggression and intrusion in the mountains of Maguindanao where the tribal ancestral lands exist.Fr. Jurambelle JohnSacil, OMI, assistant coordinator for Indigenous Peoples of the Oblates, said the event was graced by local officials, tribal leaders and school children. It was a festive event, a colorful one which showed the beauty of the Teduray Lambangian tribe, Sacil said of the event which came a day before the August 9International Indigenous Peoples Day.Fr. Dennis Gui, OMI, parish priest, said the successful event was a sign of unity toward development of the IP community in South Upi.Present during the event were Pilar Cogonon, OIC principal of LNHS, Vice Mayor Remegio Sioson and town andvillage officials.Jo Genna M. Jover was the speaker.
