Successive quakes hit Zamboanga peninsula

COTABATO CITY – A magnitude 4.3 and 4.2 hit Zamboanga peninsula in succession today, the state volcanology and seismology office said. No casualty or damage to property was reported in the tremor which was tectonic in origin and felt at 12:25 p.m. and 11:51 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in a bulletin Tuesday. The 12:52 quake was traced 26 kilometers south of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte and has a depth of 42 kilometers while the 11:51 tremor was located 34 kilometers south of Siocon and has a depth of 16 kilometgers. Phivolcs said no aftershocks are expected. Phivolcs did not say whether the twin quakes were connected to each other.
