NGCP tower bombed anew in North Cotabato

ALEOSAN, North Cotabato --Unidentified armed men, for still unknown motive, tried but failed to topple a steel tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) early on Wednesday morning, police said today. According to Supt. Bernard Tayong, speaking for North Cotabato police office, said three improvised explosive devices were attached to three posts of NGCP tower No. 63 in Purok 4, Barangay Pagangan. He said the same tower was bombed by still unidentified men on January 14 but it was not toppled. Tayong saidtwo IEDs exploded at about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday while another bomb did not. At about 5 a.m., village officials found another live IED still attached to one of the posts. Quoting village officials, Napat said the local residents heart of loud blasts but did not bother for fear they may be harmed. The tower remained standing although two of its full legs were severed.In Cotabato City, unscheduledpower interruption after the 69KV line connecting NGCP Simuay substation to Cotabato Light and Power Company tripped off at 6:52 a.m.Arlene Hepiga of Cotabato Light said power was restored few minutes later. Investigation is still on going, she said.
