BFP Koronadal raises alarm over series of fire cases

KORONADAL CITY -- Fire officials here have raised the alarm as more and more fire incidents have occurred amidst El Nino phenomenonthe past three days here.The latest incident was the conflagration that razed to the ground two houses in Agan North Subdivision, Barangay Morales that occurred at past 3 p.m. Wednesday.Fire Officer Reginal Legaste, Koronadal City fire chief, told DXOM-AM Radyo Bida Koronadal that the public should be aware everything around can be considered flammable due to dry spell.The scheduled power interruptions that hit the city and its environs since March 1 can be considered contributory in cases of fire incidents.Legaste said an abandoned candle at the altar of the house owned by Mangaliag family could have triggered the fire that destroyed two houses.He said the family was commemorating the death anniversary of the family's head, thus the use of candles at mid-day. Legaste identified the fire victim as Maria Cristina Mangaliag, a teacher working in Polomolok, South Cotabato. A neighbor's house was also damaged.
