KIDAPAWAN CITY (Sept. 5/NDBC) -- Following the murder of an education official in North Cotabato, ProvincialSchools Division Superintendent Omar Obas has scheduled a meeting to discuss education officials security andsafety.Obas was deeply concerned with the safety of education officials after unidentified gunmen shot dead last weekVioleta Almazan, 60, district supervisor of Midsayap South district.Almazan was backriding with her husband, Gervacio heading to Midsayap from Magpet town when gunmen ambush them in Pikit, North Cotabato. We need to discuss this matter seriously because it should not be happening, Obas said in a radio interview.Education officials are there to educate and they are not combatants, he added. Whether personal or work related, we need to discuss if out educators are being threatened, Obas said, adding that education officials should be open to discussion about matters that concern their security and safety.At the same time, Obas and other provincial school officials are hoping the Almazan couple is given justice.He urged the police to help bring justice for the education official.(NDBC)
